Most of what we heard about Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City, officially) before we
went was that it was a crazy, big, hot, and overwhelming city. There was plenty
going on, but I never felt overwhelmed and overall we loved it. It is less
walkable than we expected after our experience in other cities, just due to the
size, but we still enjoyed walking around and seeing people live their lives out
in public. Also, the temperature actually felt better, allegedly because of the
breeze from the sea.
Re-energized now, enjoying a different kind of city life.
We learned a ton about the American war, saw the Cu Chi tunnels that hid and
moved the Viet Cong, and of course Anna ran up to a guard to get a picture
with him.
Fresh fish and produce all over the streets.
The food, especially the seafood, in Saigon was overall the best we had in
Vietnam.
This was a highlight -- night time street food tour with Vu from
Saigon Street Eats.
We learned a ton, gorged on delicious food, and rode scooters around the city.
Our last meal was one of my favorites of the
trip, with a large selection of seafood and a ton of locals eating and
drinking just off the street.
